چکیده

Intestinal changes, mainly in the jejunum, were investigated in 13 cases of malignant histiocytosis at necropsy and who had presented as lethal midline granuloma. Villous atrophy with crypt hyperplasia was observed in all cases, and a proliferation of atypical histiocytes was observed in seven cases. In the remaining cases, histiocytes with normal morphology increased in number. These findings showed that a prolonged abnormal proliferation of histiocytes was present in the small intestine of these cases concurrently with the nasal lesions.

Hypersensitivity reactions in the small intestine. 2. Effects of allograft rejection on mucosal architecture and lymphoid cell infiltrate.

Small intestinal mucosa contains both thymus dependent and thymus independent lymphoid cells and thus has the capacity to act via humoral and cellular mechanisms as a site of local immunity and local hypersensitivity. Allograft rejection of mouse small intestine is a model of a local cell mediated reaction. The effects of this clearly defined, immunologically mediated damage villi, crypts, ente...

Gastric pathology in pediatric Crohn’s disease

Tufting enteropathy First described in 1994, tufting enteropathy is a clinicopathological entity in which infants present with watery diarrhea in the first month of life. The pattern of inheritance appears to be autosomal recessive. Jejunal biopsy shows partial or subtotal villous atrophy with normal or hyperplastic crypts. The lamina propria is not inflamed and intraepithelial lymphocytes are ...

Increase in y / 6 T cell receptor bearing lymphocytes in normal small bowel mucosa in latent coeliac disease

A jejunal biopsy specimen from an asymptomatic 35 year old man was studied because of a low serum titre of reticulin antibody and the finding of coeliac disease in his son. In this specimen villous structure was quite normal as was the total number of intraepithelial lymphocytes, but the number of y/b T cell receptor bearing lymphocytes was 10 times higher than the mean in control subjects. Two...

Normal small bowel biopsy followed by coeliac disease.

We report four patients (two children, one adolescent, and one adult) having normal small bowel mucosa shown on a biopsy specimen taken before the initial diagnosis of coeliac disease was made. The first biopsy was undertaken in two cases because of suspected malabsorption, in the third because of suspected dermatitis herpetiformis, and in the fourth as part of a coeliac disease family study. A...

Gene expression profiling discriminates biopsies – in paediatric patients investigated for suspected celiac disease

Celiac disease (CD) is an inflammatory disease, triggered by an immunologic response to gluten in wheat, which manifests itself by symptoms such as diarrhoea, abdominal pain and malabsorption. CD results in an inflamed small intestine with varying degree of villous atrophy, crypt hyperplasia, increased intraepithelial lymphocytes and increased paracellular permeability of the intestinal epithel...
